The story behind Midnight Shooting Stars:
.
It was a beautiful night of summer 2017, in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco.
.
We left Marrakech for the Sahara Desert. In the late afternoon, we finally arrived in a Berber village where we would rest for a night. After dinner, we were invited to the rooftop - the air was crisp, and once in a while, a breeze would caress my hair. I tucked myself under a blanket and wrapped my hands around a glass of warm mint tea, settling in for the night. The Berber nomads already started playing the drums and humming some tribal music, while everyone else was clapping with rhythm. Under the dim light, I could see their grins.
.
As it got further into the night, most people went back to their rooms. A few of us stayed. One person was still weaving some guitar melodies. I laid down, gazing at the sky overflowing with stars. Every few minutes, a shooting star would slide across the sky, leaving a fleeting golden trace against the dark surface. Earth is gigantic yet so insignificant, no? Let alone our worries and sorrows. I took a deep breath.
.
Many times later, when I was stargazing in different places with different people, the vivid memory of this night still kept coming back to me: It’s the same midnight shooting stars.
